The Kenealy Cup soccer tournament is held to honor Brian Kenealy, a beloved member of our York soccer community who was tragically lost in a motor vehicle accident in Castine, Maine in December, 2022.

Brian graduated from York High School in 2021, where he was a three-season varsity athlete in soccer, winter track, and baseball. He was in his second year at Maine Maritime Academy, majoring in Marine Transportation Operations and was a member of the Maine Maritime Academy Regiment of Midshipmen.  

Brian's passion for soccer started from the early age of three, when he began playing with the York Rec Program, which he would continue for years growing up. He continued on to be an extremely valuable member of the YHS team for four years and spent two seasons with MMA's varsity team. He was a fearless defender on the field and was an integral part of some really special teams throughout his playing career.  Most importantly, Brian was an incredible teammate;  he was hard-working, committed and he could always find a way to make you laugh.

Brian's friends and former teammates wanted to come together to honor and remember him-and it only made sense to get together to do something that he loved so much and that forged such fond memories and strong connections over the years between Brian and so many people.
